A graduate of both the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Massage Therapy Institute of Colorado, Susan Priefert brings tremendous depth and personal experience to her profession as a traditional Chinese medicine and massage practitioner. After suffering a traumatic brain injury in 1993, Susan began exploring alternative therapies when she found that the pharmacological-based emphasis of Western medicine simply was not addressing the complex needs of the recovery process. Beginning with a combination of Iyengar Yoga and acupuncture, Susan found immediate relief and began making steady progress in regaining her balance and mental focus. Inspired by the gentle and highly effective aspects of these alternative therapies, Susan began studying a variety of therapeutic massage techniques, including Swedish, deep tissue, neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, reflexology, craniosacral therapy, tui na, and Ortho-Bionomy, a neuromuscular re-education technique that uses comfortable body positions to help release muscular tension and trauma. To expand her knowledge base and treatment offerings, in 2007 Susan began studying and treating patients with acupuncture. The freedom that comes with pain relief and getting the body back to a normal, healthy state prior to trauma is the primary focus of Susan’s practice. With an emphasis on addressing sports performance, injury prevention and recovery, Susan combines all her knowledge and experience to help professional and amateur athletes alike regain range of motion, reduce pain and inflammation, as well as overcome emotional and mood disorders that can affect performance. Susan is also a current faculty member at the San Francisco School of Massage.
